Two girls die, 10 family members fall ill in cholera outbreak in Bajaur

A cholera outbreak in the Bandagai area of Utman Khel tehsil in Bajaur has claimed the lives of two young girls and left 10 members of the same family severely ill, 24NewsHD TV reported on Thursday.

The deceased children were identified as nine-year-old Alisha Bibi and four-year-old Pakeeza Bibi.

According to hospital sources, the affected family belongs to Lower Dir.

The remaining patients were shifted to Timergara Hospital for medical treatment and further care.

Following reports of suspected cholera and acute diarrhoea cases in the area, the Bajaur Health Department launched an immediate investigation.

Acting on the directives of the DC Bajaur and the District Health Officer (DHO), the department’s outbreak response team visited the affected locality to assess the situation on the ground.

During the visit, health officials collected water samples for laboratory testing to determine the possible source of the infection.

Authorities said the affected family has been provided with essential medicines, oral rehydration salts (ORS), and other necessary medical assistance.
