Govt decides to replace HEC Chairman Tariq Banori

The federal government has decided to replace Tariq Banori, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Cabinet Committee on Legislation has passed an ordinance regarding the replacement of the HEC chairman.
The ordinance will limit the tenure of the HEC chairman from four to two years. The committee approved a new ordinance to amend the HEC Act 2002.
According to the ordinance, the amendment will be considered part of the existing ordinance while the final decision on the ordinance will be taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
It may be recalled that HEC Chairman Tariq Banuri was appointed by former Prime Minister Khaqan Abbasi in May 2018, whose tenure is expiring in May 2022.
