Emphasizing that he had ‘good’ relations with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Friday that the reports of the appointment of a new army chief in April were mere speculations, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He was speaking at the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) political committee meeting held in Islamabad to discuss the opposition’s no-trust motion, overtures made to the PTI government’s allied parties and the party’s rally to be held in the federal capital on Sunday (March 27, 2022).
He further said since new army chief was appointed either in July or August, it was premature to talk about his appointment as early as in March.
The premier also said he had not decided about granting extension to the current COAS as yet.
Commenting on the prospects of success or failure of the opposition’s no-trust motion, PM Imran said the picture would be clear only on the voting day. “How many MNAs show up will only be known on the ‘big day’,” he added.
