Pakistan observes Earth Hour to protect planet

Like around the world, Earth Hour was observed across the country, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Saturday.

An event was organized by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) under the name of Earth Hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. Following the routine of the event, people united and took individual actions on environmental issues and made efforts to protect the planet.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for joint efforts to save the planet.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said that saving our planet from the ill-effects of climate change is a collective endeavor, in which everyone and every action matters.

Taking to Twitter, PM said: “Pakistan joins the global community today in observing Earth Hour & demonstrating its commitment to the fulfilment of its obligations to climate change actions. Saving our planet from the ill-effects of climate change is a collective endeavor, one in which everyone matters.”

Earth Hour was observed across the globe on Saturday by millions of people from over 190 countries and territories. All the Lights were switched off for just one hour. Lights of WAPDA house on Mall road in Lahore were also turned off.

The event launched by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007, is now a part of an annual tradition to raise awareness about climate change.
