Grenade attack targets JUI-F MPA Riaz Shaheen's home in Kurram

Unknown assailants hurled a hand grenade at the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Muhammad Riaz Shaheen in the Kurram district, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

According to the details, the incident took place in the Jandari area of Lower Kurram.

As per the initial reports, no casualties were reported and no one was injured in the attack, as at the time of the incident, Riaz Shaheen was in Peshawar.

Security personnel deployed at the residence were reportedly occupied with their meal when the grenade was thrown at the house of the MPA.

Local police reached the scene shortly after the attack and launched an investigation.

Police have collected evidence from the site and are working to determine the identity of those responsible and the motive behind the incident.

Muhammad Riaz Shaheen Bangash is a sitting member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and represents constituency PK-95 Kurram-I on the ticket of JUI-F.

According to assembly records, he has been elected to the provincial legislature twice from Maulana Fazlur Rehman's party’s platform.

Riaz Shaheen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kohat University and is an agriculturist by profession.

He was first elected to the provincial assembly in a 2019 by-election and later secured re-election from his constituency.

In the 2019 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by-election held on 20 July, Shaheen contested from constituency PK-108 Kurram-I as a JUI-F candidate.

He won the seat by a margin of 602 votes, securing 12,240 votes against independent candidate Malik Jameel Khan, who received 11,638 votes.
