Petroleum levy collections surpass combined size of IMF loan programmes
The federal government collected a record Rs2.725 trillion in petroleum levy between April 2024 and March 2026, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
According to official data, the amount collected through the petroleum levy exceeded the combined size of Pakistan’s two loan programmes with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which total around Rs2.34 trillion.
The government collected more than Rs1.205 trillion in petroleum levy during the first nine months of the current fiscal year, from July 2025 to March 2026.
In fiscal year 2024-25, total petroleum levy collections stood at Rs1.220 trillion, the data revealed.
The records further showed that petroleum levy collections during the April-June quarter of 2024 amounted to Rs299.63 billion.
The petroleum levy has become a major source of non-tax revenue for the government amid efforts to meet fiscal targets and comply with conditions linked to international financial assistance programmes.
