Pakistan Railways is spending 50 percent more than its revenue, revealed the documents presented in the National Assembly.
According to a 24NewsHD TV channel report on Friday, the expenses of Pakistan Railways were more than 50% compared to its income.
A written reply on behalf of the Ministry of Railways was presented in the House in the session of the National Assembly.
According to the reply, the Railways' deficit during April and October was Rs35.31 billion as the revenue of the Railways was Rs33 billion and the expenses were more than Rs69 billion.
The document said over Rs75 billion are being given annually to 125,000 railway pensioners.
The document shows that rail punctuality has improved from 63 percent to 80 percent.
According to the written reply, 230 high-speed coaches of international standards will soon join the Railways fleet.
It said that Railways has started the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul cargo train after 9 years.
