President accepts resignation of LHC Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza

The President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, has formally accepted the resignation of Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza of Lahore Court, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday. 

According to sources, Justice Mirza’s name has been removed from the official roster of judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) following the approval.

With his resignation, the total number of serving judges at the LHC has now dropped to 43. As a result, the number of vacant positions at the court has risen to 17, further widening the gap in judicial strength at one of the country’s busiest high courts.

The development comes amid ongoing concerns regarding increasing caseloads and the need to fill long-pending judicial vacancies to ensure the timely dispensation of justice.
