Despite the fact that smog is becoming an annual feature in central parts of Punjab, so much so that the provincial capital Lahore remained on the top of most polluted cities of the world last autumn, with the air quality index (AQI) in the city way above the normal level, ultimately prompting the Punjab government to ban the burning of stubble of crops, farmers in Narowal district are openly violating the Punjab government directives, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Farmers in the district are burning stubble of the rice crop, which is adding to smog in the area, and resultantly people are experiencing difficulty in breathing.
The locals have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to take notice of the situation and order the concerned authorities to crackdown on the farmers indulging in such practice.
