13-year-old boy succumbs to cleric beating in Lahore

A 13-year-old boy who was allegedly beaten badly by a cleric three days ago died on Sunday, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.   

The boy had been in critical condition and under medical care in a local hospital since the incident.

According to medical experts, he had suffered a brain hemorrhage as a result of the severe beating he endured.

Anas, 13, had taken a day off from the madrasa due to rain on September 19. On the next  day when he returned, he was brutally beaten by the madrassa’s cleric. The cleric forced him to lie down on the floor and used a wooden stick to beat him, which left the victim unconscious.

Following the beating, instead of immediately getting the boy medical help, the cleric attempted to revive him using home remedies.

Anas’s family became concerned when he did not return home at the expected time in the evening. The family learned about the incident when they arrived at the madrasa and found the boy lying unconscious.

A first information report (FIR) has been registered by the police on a complaint of Anas’s grandfather, Sabir Butt. After registering the FIR, the police arrested cleric Shoaib and two of his colleagues. The matter is under investigation by the police. 

 The FIR states that the victim was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a brain hemorrhage. His body was shifted  for autopsy.
