Zardari focuses on trade, education and agriculture cooperation during China tour

President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening strategic ties with China during his official visit, holding key talks with Hunan Provincial leadership in Changsha.

The president met Hunan Provincial Party Secretary Shen Xiaoming, where both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across multiple sectors, including agriculture, health, education and trade.

During the meeting, Zardari emphasized that relations with China remain a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy, describing the partnership as one that “spans generations.” He highlighted the deep-rooted ties between the people of both countries, stating that their “hearts beat together.”

The president particularly appreciated Hunan province’s advancements in agricultural technology and equipment, noting that such expertise could play a vital role in boosting Pakistan’s productivity. He also stressed the need to enhance bilateral trade and explore new avenues of economic collaboration.

Secretary Shen Xiaoming said that Hunan’s universities have already signed 12 cooperation agreements with Pakistani institutions, adding that 959 Pakistani students are currently studying in the province across various disciplines.

Later, President Zardari attended a dinner hosted by Hunan Governor Mao Weiming, where both sides reiterated the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties and expanding cooperation.

Zardari also acknowledged Hunan’s historical significance as the birthplace of Mao Zedong, saying that the ideology of empowering the people resonates with Pakistanis.

The Hunan leadership described Pakistan-China friendship as exemplary, reaffirming their commitment to further deepening the longstanding partnership.
