By-elections on seven vacant NA, PA seats on hold

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) awaiting the response of provincial governments for by-elections on seven vacant seats in the National and Provincial Assemblies, reported 24NewsHD quoting its sources on Wednesday.

The TV channel reported that the by-polls were not conducted due to COVID-19 and now provincial governments will decide when and how these polls will be conducted.

The by-elections have been pending on two National Assembly and Sindh Assembly seats and one seat each in Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The TV channel reported five provincial assemblies’ seats are vacant including Punjab Assembly’s PP-51 Gujranwala, Sindh Assembly’s constituency PS-88 Malir and PS-52 Umarkot, KP-63, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 63 Nowshera and Balochistan Assembly PB-20 Pishin.

NA-75 Sialkot seat has been vacant after the demise of Syed Iftkhikhar-ul-Hassan while NA-45 Kurram Agency seat is vacant after the death of Munir Khan Orakzai.
