After NA, PTI ready to surrender seat of Opp Leader in Senate too

After losing the seat of the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan has now lost the seat of the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate too.

The move shows the PTI has sidelined itself and cleared the way for the rise of the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution.

After naming Mahmood Khan Achakzai of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, PTI founder Imran Khan has directed his party to nominate Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas as Opposition Leader in the Senate.

PTI’s Political Committee will discuss nomination of Allama Raja Nasir Abbas as Leader of the Opposition in Senate at its upcoming meeting. The Political Committee had earlier objected to the nomination of Mahmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly.

Despite political committee’s objection, Khan retained Achakzai for opposition leader’s position.

Sources said the PTI founder also snubbed Salman Akram Raja for submitting his resignation. He told Raja that a political leader does not resign through WhatsApp group chat.

Also, Khan said the political committee would decide whether PTI would participate in the by-elections or not. PTI’s political committee would make this decision through voting. Earlier, the Political Committee had voted 13-9 in favour of party’s participation in by-elections.
