Ishaq Dar meets British-Pakistani parliamentarians in London

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met British parliamentarians of Pakistani origin at Pakistan House in London, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the meeting was attended by Lord Zameer Choudrey, Lord Qurban Hussain, Baroness Shaista Sheehan and Lord Shafaq Muhammad. British MPs Muhammad Yasin, Yasmin Qureshi, Afzal Khan, Zubair Ahmed and Adnan Hussain also took part.

Dar praised the role of British parliamentarians in strengthening relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. He also appreciated their continued support for a fair solution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

The British parliamentarians praised Pakistan’s leadership and diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and promote peace in the Middle East. They said Pakistan’s role had received international recognition and had made Pakistanis living abroad proud.

Dar briefed the parliamentarians on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East and support peace. He said implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding by all parties was necessary for lasting peace and stability.

Dar also said the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement would play an important role in promoting regional peace and stability. He stressed that the agreement was fully defensive in nature.

The British parliamentarians congratulated Dar on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s success in recent developments in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Dar said the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir had supported the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz because of its record of economic development and public welfare in the past.

He said the new AJK government would give priority to investment in infrastructure and creating employment opportunities for young people.

Dar added that the federal government and the AJK government would work with other political parties and stakeholders to build agreement on important government and constitutional matters.

The British parliamentarians of Pakistani origin reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
