Former president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, a seasoned politician and considered by the rivals as a master of political makes and breaks, does not like to stay behind as he jumped in to bolster his party’s campaign for the Senate elections on March 3.
Asif Zardari said they will win the elections for the Upper House of the Parliament as the cracks are visible in the government’s ranks, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Addressing a dinner reception in honour of PPP lawmakers at Bilawal House in Karachi, Zardari said “I will show it to the nation how to get rid of the incompetent rulers. We are winning the Senate elections as the government’s ranks are shaking with cracks.”
Zardari said they had faced many challenges banking on the strength of PPP workers and legislators.
The dinner was also attended by Bakhtawar Bhutto, Mahmood Chaudhry, Aseefa Bhutto and Faryal Talpur.
It may be mentioned here that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was at Jati Umra on Thursday to finalise the strategy for the Senate elections. He held in-depth talks with PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz.
Both the leaders also pondered upon the joint strategy for contesting the Senate elections with each other’s support.
Speaking on the occasion, Bilawal had said the government had suffered defeats in the recent by-elections, from Pishin to Sialkot. "The people have rejected them in every by-election," he said. "I believe two decisions taken by the PDM — one to contest the by-elections and the other to partake in the Senate polls — have completely changed the political situation and has made the government uneasy," added Bilawal.
The PPP leader said that the PDM was not bringing about a no-confidence movement against the government at the moment and was only contesting the Senate elections. "We took the decisions to contest the by-elections and the Senate elections together. When it comes to sending this government home, we will also decide as to when we will do that, through consensus," he added.
"Yes, we are in contact with every member of the parliament and are trying to get them to vote for our candidates," he said.
Bilawal thanked the PML-N supremo for extending support to PPP candidate Yousaf Raza Gilani. “Giliani’s election campaign is going good. Recent by-elections showed that people are with the PDM.”
Bilawal also demanded the release of Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz and PPP leader Khursheed Shah.
