118 citizens, staff electrocuted to death in one year, says Nepra report

As many as 118 people were killed due to electrocution during the financial year (FY), 2024-25 in the country with most 28 dying in Islamabad region, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In its report released on Thursday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) said that there were 80 ordinary citizens among those killed after receiving electric shock, while the remaining 38 were the employees of different power distribution companies (Discos).

The report revealed that most of the deaths of ordinary people were reported from the areas covered by Karachi Electric (K-Electric).

In all, 24 people were electrocuted to death in these areas.

The number of fatalities in the areas covered by K-Electric followed those reported from the areas covered by the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) where the death toll stands at 28.

Among them, 22 were ordinary people, while the remaining six were IESCO employees.

Similarly, 20 fatalities were reported from the areas covered by Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO); 13 from Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO); eight from Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO), and six each from Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO).

Likewise, five deaths each were reported from the areas covered by Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) and Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).

The lowest death toll was reported from the areas covered by Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO).

Only two people were electrocuted to death in these areas during the last FY.
