ICC deies accreditation cards to Bangladeshi journalists for T20 World Cup coverage

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected accreditation applications from Bangladeshi journalists seeking to cover the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, effectively preventing media representatives from Bangladesh from attending the tournament, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.

According to sources familiar with the matter, around 100 Bangladeshi sports journalists had applied for media accreditation, but all applications were cancelled by the sport’s global governing body, leaving Bangladesh without on-ground media representation at the event.

The decision comes amid heightened off-field tensions, as political and administrative disputes surrounding the tournament have intensified even before the start of play.

Bangladesh was previously replaced by Scotland in the competition after the Bangladesh Cricket Board declined to travel to India, citing security concerns, sources said. The ICC rejected Bangladesh’s request related to venue arrangements, leading to their exclusion from the tournament.

While the ICC has not publicly explained the reasons for cancelling the media accreditations, the move has sparked debate over media access, transparency and governance at major international sporting events, particularly as the T20 World Cup is expected to draw significant global attention.
