PIA board of directors disapproves employees’ salary increase
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Board of Directors on Tuesday could not take any decision regarding the salary increase of the national airlines’ employees, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to sources, the board of directors in a meeting held in Karachi on Tuesday expressed its
reluctance to increase in salaries of PIA employees due to financial constraints.
The management of the PIA briefed the board about the PIA restructuring in detail. Consequently, the board gave its approval for restructuring the PIA and directed the management to prepare an integrated restructuring plan for the airlines.
In the restructuring plan, PIA will be divided into two parts. “Loans, non-core departments, and nonessential employees will be placed in the first part of the PIA.
The second part of PIA will hold aircraft, all profitable assets, and core departments.
The sources further stated the number of employees in the second part of PIA will be kept low. Under the restructuring, the first part of PIA will be phased out.
The PIA board of directors also expressed its satisfaction with PIA's steps to resume flights to Europe, UK, and US.
The meeting was told that a team from the European Aviation Agency EASA will come to Pakistan in September for an audit. “All preparations are complete for the EASA audit, briefing to the board.”
The PIA Board was also briefed on the in-flight entertainment plan for PIA planes.
The in-flight entertainment system will be under international standards, sources said.
