The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the FIA DG and Agha Iftikharuddin Mirza in the threatening video suo motu case and adjourned the hearing till July 2, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Earlier, Mirza arrived at the Supreme Court building to attend the proceedings but police arrested him. However, he was later released on the court orders.
The suo motu case relates to a video in which Mirza used threatening language against Justice Faez Isa. As soon as the video went viral on social media, Justice Faez’s wife approached the police for registration of a case, citing the threat faced by her husband.
However, the police did not register any case, saying they could not do anything in the matter which was related to the FIA Cybercrime Wing.
During Friday’s hearing, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, heading a two-member bench, with reference to the threats asked Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan what was happening.
The attorney general replied that he had checked the matter, as Justice Faez’s wife had submitted an application with the police who forwarded the matter to the FIA. The agency was currently looking into the matter under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, he added.
But the chief justice observed that the FIA was doing nothing, which already other matters related to the judges.
Meanwhile, the court was informed by Mirza’s lawyer that his client – religious leader – had been arrested despite that the fact that he arrived at the court himself.
To this, the chief justice asked why he was arrested and ordered to present him before the two-member bench.
Later, he was released on the assurance that he would record his statement before the FIA.
