Pakistan records 36 more corona deaths, 935 infections in a day

Another 36 people died of Covid coronavirus whereas 935 were infected during the last 24 hours (Friday) across Pakistan, showed the figures released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Saturday morning.

As per the latest NCOC data, after the addition of 36 more deaths the toll now has surged to 22,190 whereas the number of confirmed cases stood at 952,992 after adding 935 fresh ones.

During the past 24 hours (Friday), 1,110 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 898,844.

As of Saturday, the total count of active cases was recorded at 32,710, while the positivity rate stood at 1.99 percent.

As many as 335,044 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 345,655 in Punjab, 137,650 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 82,528 in Islamabad, 26,932 in Balochistan, 20,173 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and 5,950 in Gilgit Baltistan.

Moreover, 10,713 individuals have so far lost their lives to the pandemic in Punjab, 5,407 in Sindh, 4,298 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 776 in Islamabad, 578 in Azad Kashmir, 305 in Balochistan, and 111 in Gilgit Baltistan.

Pakistan has conducted 46,842 tests during the past 24 hours (Friday) out of which 935 persons were tested positive for the disease.

- 3.9 million dead -

The pandemic has killed at least 3,903,064 people since the virus first emerged in December 2019, according to an AFP compilation of official data.

The United States is the worst-affected country with 603,178 deaths, followed by Brazil with 509,141, India with 393,310 Mexico 232,068 and Peru 191,286.

The World Health Organization says up to three times more people have died directly or indirectly due to the pandemic than official figures suggest.
