Khaqan Shahnawaz raises alarm over rising child abuse cases
Pakistani actor Khaqan Shahnawaz has sparked a discussion online after sharing his views on the recent Muntaha case and other child abuse incidents.
In his video, he argued that stricter punishments alone are not enough to prevent such crimes. Referring to the recent case, Khaqan noted that authorities took swift action against one of the suspects and promised severe punishment for the offenders.
However, he pointed out that within a short period, reports of similar crimes involving young children surfaced again, raising questions about whether harsh punishments are serving as an effective deterrent.
According to Khaqan, the focus should not only be on punishing offenders after crimes occur but also on addressing the root causes.
He explained that society often avoids discussing issues such as sexual awareness, public education and child safety, which he believes are essential in preventing such incidents.
He also criticized what he described as society's tendency to celebrate immediate actions while ignoring long-term solutions.
Khaqan quoted that awareness campaigns and age-appropriate education in schools and other learning environments should be part of broader efforts to protect children.
Concluding his remarks, Khaqan said that unless society undergoes meaningful change through education, awareness, and collective responsibility.
