PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday handed over the first batch of 5,000 protective gear and 5,000 masks for doctors and medical staff fighting the nation's battle against the fatal new coronavirus.
Shehbaz, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly, handed over the kits to former federal health minister Saira Afzal Tarrar, former provincial health minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, Khawaja Imran Niazi and PML-N Deputy Secretary General Attaullah Tarrar.
He said these kits will be given to doctors of Grand Doctors' Alliance at PML-N Central Secretariat in Lahore. He directed party members and leaders to increase their philanthropic activities and told the past elected members of local bodies to help people as volunteers.
He said the next batch of 5,000 protective gear and 5,000 masks will be handed over to relevant people later. He thanked renowned businessman Mr Irfan for this invaluable donation of masks. He expressed the hope that other affluent Pakistanis would follow in the footsteps of Irfan.
Shehbaz said this was being done on the directions of PML-N Patron Nawaz Sharif. He said he had repeatedly been asking the government to ensure safety of doctors, but he did not see any sense of urgency on government’s side in this regard.
