No-trust motion against Balochistan CM Bizenjo fails to take off

Motion could not generate enough votes to be presented in the Balochistan Assembly

May 26, 2022 01:19 PM

The opposition in Balochistan Assembly failed to table the no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo after its failure to grab the support of required lawmakers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Zahoor Ahmed Buledi of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) presented the no-confidence motion in the House which, however, failed to get the required number of votes.

It is learnt that the no-trust move against the Balochistan chief minister needed 13 votes, but, there were only 11 votes in its support at that time.

The session of the house was held with acting Balochistan Assembly speaker Babar Musakhail in the chair.

It is to be noted here that Abdul Quddus Bizenjo was elected as the Chief Minister of Balochistan after the provincial assembly passed a motion of no-confidence against former chief minister Jam Kamal Khan a few months ago in October 2021.

BNP stays away

Balochistan National Party leader and Member Provincial Assembly Akhtar Hussain Langu earlier has said that the BNP would not support the no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo.

“BNP has formed a committee to discuss the issue and reach a conclusion regarding the no-confidence motion against CM Balochistan,” he said while talking to reporters before the Balochistan Assembly session.

Akhtar Hussain Lango said that political parties in the Balochistan Assembly have contacted us, however, the door of discussion was open on the no-confidence motion against the chief minister. He recalled that BNP has formed a negotiating committee which will meet soon. “We will formulate our strategy for the no-confidence motion and announce our decision within two days.”

Delay in session

Members of the Balochistan Assembly are still arriving at the provincial assembly to attend the session, which had to begin at 10:00 am today for the tabling of the no-trust motion against Chief Minister (CM) Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, but which has not started as yet, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to the media men, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Leader Naseebullah Marri said that although doors were still open for negotiations, those going to table the motion would badly fail in their attempt to dislodge the provincial government. “It will become clear which party has majority in the House once the motion is tabled,” he said, adding some of the PTI MPAs supported Jam Kamal while others CM Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo. “Party Chairman Imran Khan, however, has directed us to support Bizenjo,” he told the media.

Talking to reporters, Leader of the Opposition in the Balochistan Assembly and member Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Malik Iskander Advocate said that the party had not made up its mind as yet as to which side to support. “There are still three to seven days for voting on the resolution,” he said, adding he could not say with certainty what would be the fate of the motion.

Eight days back, no-trust motion was moved against Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo after PTI leader and MPA Yar Muhammad Rind confirmed that they had enough support to remove him.

According to details, the parties supporting the no-trust move included Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Awami National Party (ANP) and PTI.

Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind, Jam Kamal and Asghar Achakzai had submitted the no-confidence motion in the Balochistan Assembly secretariat that have signs of 14 MPAs.
