Info minister Marriyum Aurangzeb expresses grief and sorrow over demise of veteran journalist

Senior journalist Ashraf Mumtaz, who breathed his last on Friday morning peacefully at his home, was laid to rest in Lahore’s Miani Sahib graveyard in the afternoon.

A large number of journalists, family members and friends attended the funeral of the veteran journalist who spent over 40 years in the field of journalism and was still active in the field till his last.

He remained associated with major national and international newspapers during his illustrious career.

He was the former Chief Reporter of Daily Dawn and after retirement joined The National as Editor Reporting. Then he spent a decade as Editor Reporting of Daily The Nation before performing his duties as Deputy Editor of 24NewsHD TV’s digital media.

Currently, he was associated with Saudi Arabia-based newspaper Arab News where his last opinion piece appeared on May 20, 203.

Info minister grieved

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of senior journalist Ashraf Mumtaz.

The minister, in a condolence message, prayed to the Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity.

She also sympathized with the bereaved family and said she was saddened by hearing the news of the senior journalist’s demise.

The services rendered by Ashraf Mumtaz in the journalism field would always be remembered, she added.
