Court grants police more time to conduct polygraph and forensic tests of PTI founder

An Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore Monday granted police additional time to conduct polygraph, photogrammetric, and voice matching tests of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), following delays due to the accused’s non-cooperation, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Judge Manzar Ali Gul presided over the hearing at the Anti-Terrorism Court, during which the prosecution filed a fresh application requesting permission to carry out the three forensic tests inside Adiala Jail, where the PTI founder is currently detained.

According to the police and prosecution, despite previous efforts, they have been unable to perform the tests because the PTI founder refused to cooperate. The prosecution stated in its application that the polygraph, photogrammetric, and voice matching tests are essential for verifying the truthfulness of the accused's statements in an ongoing case related to terrorism allegations.

The court accepted the prosecution’s request and granted police until June 9 to complete all the required tests. It also issued directions to the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to facilitate the investigation officers by ensuring the PTI founder is presented in a separate room within the jail premises to undergo the procedures.

DSP Javed Asif and Prosecutor Azar represented the police and prosecution during the proceedings, arguing that the tests are a legal requirement for the investigation. A junior lawyer appeared on behalf of PTI founder Imran Khan, as senior counsel Barrister Salman Safdar was unavailable.
