Pakistan’s young cricketers share journey, ambitions in PCB podcast

Three emerging Pakistani cricketers, Saad Baig, Shamyl Hussain and Hunain Shah, shared their experiences, struggles and ambitions during a recent podcast released by the Pakistan Cricket Board, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday. 

The three youngsters stressed that hard work, consistency and a willingness to learn are the main ingredients for success at the professional level.

Former Pakistan Under-19 captain Saad Baig said his primary goal is to earn a permanent place in the national team through strong performances in every tournament.

“My responsibility is to deliver my best performance in every event,” Saad said, adding that spending time with senior cricketers provides young players with valuable learning opportunities.

He said experienced players help youngsters improve their understanding of the game and decision-making skills under pressure.

Young opener Shamyl Hussain also spoke about handling criticism and pressure during his cricket journey.

He said family support helped him stay focused despite outside opinions.

“When your family is happy with you, other people’s opinions stop mattering,” Shamyl said.

He added that taking first-class cricket seriously played a major role in his development as a player.

According to Shamyl, red-ball cricket taught him lessons that white-ball cricket alone could not provide, particularly in discipline, patience and temperament.

Fast bowler Hunain Shah recalled a tense match situation where he successfully defended six runs, saying he remained confident throughout the over.

“I believed Allah would honour my hard work,” Hunain said, revealing that he spent six months practising yorkers daily to improve his death bowling skills.

He added that consistent training allows the body to react naturally during high-pressure moments in matches, something he believes is crucial for fast bowlers at the top level.
