Commissioner Karachi on Tuesday convened a high-level meeting to discuss the strategy to demolish the Nasla Tower on the Supreme Court (SC) orders, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Officials of the Pakistan Army’s Five Core and representatives of Sindh Rangers were also invited to the meeting.
The meeting, to be held at Commissioner’ House, will also be attended by the vice chancellor of NED University, heads of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Solid Waste Management Board (SWMB) besides senior officials of police and FWO.
Meanwhile, Sui gas connection to the tower has been severed while the water supply was being disconnected till the filing of this report.
In yet another development, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has demanded the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) to order compensation of the people living in 44 flats housed in the Nasla Tower since they had spent all their income on purchasing these apartments.
The Supreme Court had yesterday (October 25) ordered the authorities to bulldoze the Nasla Tower within a week.
A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmad heard the Tower Nasla case at Karachi Registry on Monday.
Issuing the order to demolish the Nasla Tower, the apex court showed its annoyance over the non-compliance of its earlier order.
The court asked the authorities to answer it why the tower had not been bulldozed as yet. The court firmly held that no favour would be granted in this regard.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmad asked the Karachi commissioner to get ready to remove the debris of the soon-to-be-demolished building. He also directed him to pay compensation to the residents of the tower.
