Police in Karachi’s Clifton area have arrested two men in connection with the gang-rape of a nine-year-old girl from the flood-affected district of Shikarpur, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Naming those arrested as Ghulam Rasool and Khalid Lund, SSP Investigation Zahida Perveen told media that the police had also impounded the vehicle used by the suspects to kidnap the girl.
Giving more details, she said one of those arrested was a driver while the other one was his friend. “While Ghulam Rasool was taken into custody from Clifton, Khalid Lund was arrested from Tando Allah Yar area of Sindh,” she said, adding both the suspects would now go through a medical checkup.
Confirming the news, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the arrests were made with the help of footages obtained from CCTV cameras.
Two men had taken the girl away with them in a car while she was begging at a chowk in Karachi South on the pretext of providing her some food items. But later, instead of keeping their promise, they subjected her to a gang-rape.
The girl returned to her mother near Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine in the afternoon and narrated her ordeal.
Following news of the incident was aired on electronic media, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of it and ordered an inquiry in order to get to the culprits.
