49 Palestinian women, including minors, still held in Israeli prisons amid reports of abuse

As many as 49 Palestinian women remain imprisoned in Israeli jails, including two underage girls and one woman from Gaza, according to a report released by the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) on Sunday.

In its statement marking Palestinian Women’s National Day, the PPS said female prisoners continue to face severe mistreatment and abuse in Israeli prisons and interrogation centers.

The organization highlighted that since the start of Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023, the level of violence and brutality against detained women has reached unimaginable levels.

The PPS reported that conditions for Palestinian prisoners have deteriorated sharply since October 2023, with grave human rights violations being committed by Israeli authorities.

These include physical torture, food deprivation, denial of medical care, sexual harassment under the pretext of body searches, psychological abuse, threats of rape, and physical assaults.

Among the imprisoned women are cancer patient Fida Assaf, Tasnīm Al-Hams from Gaza, and two minors — Sali Sidqi and Hina Hamad.

The latter is reportedly being held under administrative detention without any formal charges.

The PPS further revealed that 12 of the detained Palestinian women have not been charged with any offense, underscoring what it described as systematic violations of international law and human rights by Israeli authorities.
