Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has confirmed the inclusion of Babar Azam in the T20 squad, announcing that the star batter will play at the crucial No. 3 position during the upcoming series against South Africa, 24NewsHD TV reported.

Addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi on Sunday, Hesson expressed confidence in Babar’s return to form, saying, “I am hopeful Babar Azam will make a strong comeback.”

The coach stated that the management is evaluating multiple options in preparation for the T20 World Cup, emphasizing that the ongoing and upcoming series will help in preparing the final squad.

Commenting on wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris, Hesson said the youngster had been given ample opportunities but “could not make the most of them.”

“Haris is talented but still needs improvement.”

Hesson praised Usman Khan for his batting prowess against spinners, revealing that he has been included in the T20 squad for the upcoming series. He also highlighted young spinner Usman Tariq as a promising bowling talent.

Commenting on Pakistan’s Asia Cup final loss, Hesson admitted it was a disappointing outcome, calling it “a big day that didn’t go our way.”

He stressed the need for improvement in various departments of the T20 format.

Hesson advised players who are not part of the national squad to focus on domestic cricket to regain form and fitness.

“We have sent Sufiyan Moqeem back to first-class cricket to continue his development,” he said.

Hesson continued that the South Africa series and the Tri-Nation series will be crucial for exploring World Cup combinations.

He also confirmed that Fakhar Zaman remains part of the ODI setup, adding that he needs to work on his game through first-class cricket.

“I’ve spoken to Fakhar about areas he needs to improve,” Hesson concluded.
