In an important development, the federal government on Monday decided to remove Firdous Ashiq Awan her slot and introduce a fulltime information minister, reported 24NewsHD.

Meanwhile, the post of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information is not being binned as Lt-Gen (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa is set to replace her.

The removal of Firdous, special assistant to the prime minister on information, means that the new information minister, Senator Shibli Faraz, will look after ministry and the government’s media affairs.

On the other hand, Bajwa is currently working as the CPEC Authority chairman after his retirement as the Commander Southern Command. His appointment was made in November last year after the creation of the new entity.

Previously, he served as the military spokesperson while performing his duties as the ISPR DG from 2012 to 2016. Thus, he has a vast experience of dealing with media.

The changes came as the PTI has been facing severe criticism due to its media policy amid the reports of Prime Imran Khan being unhappy with the performance of his team.
