Kh Asif says Pakistan will refrain from military action if India stays calm

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that if India does not attack Pakistan, the latter will also refrain from military action, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
In an interview with Russian media on Pak-India tension, Asif, however, said if India attacks, Pakistan will reply in the same coin. He further said Pakistan itself was a victim of terrorism and the Indian allegations that the country was involved in the incident had nothing to do with reality.
He further said, "We paid the price for supporting America against the Soviet Union."
He said Pakistan does not want to increase the tension, nor does it want to take the initiative in any action. 
Earlier, on April 23, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had strongly condemned the suspension of Indus Water Treaty by India, stating that such actions cannot be taken unilaterally.
In a statement ahead of Thursday’s National Security Committee (NSC) meeting, the defence minister remarked that the agreement is not solely between India and Pakistan but also involves the World Bank. 
Kh Asif warned that any Indian move to exit the treaty would face a strong and unified response from Pakistan. “They’ve been trying to get out of the Indus Water Treaty for a long time,” he said, “but this treaty was signed under the umbrella of the World Bank, and India cannot simply suspend it.” 
He said the agreement’s international backing adds legal weight and prevents one-sided withdrawal. “The World Bank is also involved in the Indus Waters Treaty. India cannot make this decision alone. Pakistan will give a befitting reply to Indian actions,” he added.
Kh Asif added that the government is preparing a comprehensive, well-thought-out reaction to India’s recent actions, including its statements and the controversial decision to halt water sharing under the treaty.
