Lahore gears up for high-stakes clash between Zalmi and Gladiators today

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 has crossed its halfway point, and the action is heating up as teams jostle for playoff spots. In the 17th match of the tournament, Peshawar Zalmi will face Quetta Gladiators for the second time, with the contest set to take place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Both teams are coming off victories, making this clash even more thrilling. Earlier this season, the Gladiators had dominated Zalmi with a commanding 80-run win, posting a massive 216/3 before spinner Abrar Ahmed dismantled Zalmi’s batting lineup with a four-wicket haul. Only Saim Ayub, fresh from injury, stood out with a resilient fifty in that match.

Peshawar Zalmi currently sit with 4 points from five matches (two wins and three losses), having bounced back after a poor start. Their bowling unit — led by Ali Raza, Alzarri Joseph, Luke Wood, and Arif Yaqoob — has been impressive, while skipper Babar Azam appears to be regaining form, aided by contributions from Hussain Talat, Abdul Samad, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Mohammad Haris.

Meanwhile, Quetta Gladiators also have 4 points but from only four games. After a strong start against Zalmi, they suffered two defeats before bouncing back by defending a modest 142 against Karachi Kings. Their bowling strength, featuring Mohammad Amir, Abrar Ahmed, Khurram Shahzad, and Mohammad Wasim, was on full display, but their batting unit still seeks consistency.

The Gaddafi Stadium’s pitch has proven to be tough for batters, with no team crossing 150 runs in previous games, suggesting another low-scoring, bowler-friendly battle. With clear skies forecasted, both Zalmi and Gladiators are desperate to grab two vital points and strengthen their playoff aspirations.
