Pakistan’s successful diplomacy blocks India’s agenda at UN

India faced a diplomatic setback at the international level as its attempts to portray Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir as Indian territory were thwarted at the United Nations, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

According to Indian media reports, India's wish to use harsh language against Pakistan in the UN Security Council’s (UN) condemnation statement could not materialise due to Pakistan’s successful diplomatic efforts.

The Indian media acknowledged that the condemnation statement, originally presented by the United States, was altered by China and Pakistan, ensuring that sensitive terms were changed.

Instead of labelling the area as "Indian Pahalgam", the final UN statement referred to the location as "Jammu and Kashmir" and replaced "Indian government" with "relevant authorities", taking four days of negotiations to finalise.

Pakistan’s diplomatic manoeuvring ensured that the word "Pahalgam", which India wanted to use to reinforce its claim over Occupied Kashmir, was omitted, and the term "Jammu and Kashmir" was included instead.

Thus, India’s efforts to assert its sovereignty over Occupied Kashmir through the UN platform were unsuccessful, and the final statement merely condemned the incident without endorsing Indian territorial claims.
