Police in Khairpur on Sunday rebutted media reports that five persons, SHO Ranipur, head muharrar, two doctors and a peon, taken into custody in the case of alleged rape and murder of a 10-year-old maid, Fatima Furiro, had been released after remaining in their custody for eight days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Force said that despite the fact that all five of them of them had given proofs of their innocence, it was the joint investigation team (JIT) that was to ultimately decide on their release.
Earlier, it had been reported by different publications and media channels that five suspects in the case had been set free.
On the other hand, Hina Shah, wife of main suspect in the case Pir Asad Shah, and her father Fayyaz Shah are still at large.
On the other hand, prime suspect Pir Asad Shah has been on physical remand for the last 10 days.
Police have said all those released could again be summoned for questioning whenever the need arises.
The barbaric act came to light around 10 days ago after a video of the child went viral in which she could be seen lying on a floor after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by Pir Asad Shah.
The girl eventually lost her life due to torture as confirmed by videos showing signs of torture on her body.
The incident caused countrywide outrage and was even covered by international press and news channels.
