Flood alert issued after unusual water levels in Ravi, Chenab, Sutlej rivers
National Disaster and Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) again issued an emergency alert for flooding in the River Chenab, Ravi, and Satluj, reported 24NewsHD Channel on Wednesday.
According to the National Emergency and Operations Center (NEOC), an unusual situation arose after flooding in the rivers Chenab, Ravi, and Satluj.
The alert warned that the River Chenab is facing the highest level of flood as 6.0 cusec flood water is present at Head Maralla.
While 1.7 lakh cusec flood water is present in the Ravi River, which will reach 2.5 lakh cusecs during the morning.
Due to floodwater in Ravi Ravi, there is a chance of flooding in Shahdara, Park View, and Motorway-II areas.
A 2.45 lakh cusecs of flood water is present at Ganda Singh Wala, which is likely to further increase. PDMA advised all the people who were residing alongside the river to shift to a safe location immediately.
They urged the people to use the NDMA Disaster Alert app in case of any emergency. NDMA further advised the people to arrange water, food, and medicines for themselves and avoid traveling unnecessarily in the flood-hit areas.
A spokesman of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that there high flood in the River Ravi and Sutlej.
Due to rain in urban areas, water levels in the River Ravi and Sutlej were recorded in water levels. About 2,30,000 cusecs of water is entering at Kot Nena in the Ravi River.
NDMA Punjab said water flow at Head Maralla reached 9,22,000 cusecs, 2,29,000 cusecs water is crossing at Jaster, 72,000 cusecs from Saifan, and 71,000 cusecs from Shahdara is crossing.
Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiq and Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman presided over a special which took important decisions.
The meeting decided not to install breaching sections in the River Chenab and River Ravi. "Breaching sections" is a specific part of a flood embankment designed for controlled release (a breaching section), or the act of breaking or failing within a specific physical area or legal section.
The spokesman said that the Army will extend cooperation with the civil and district administrations in rescue operations.
The meeting decided to provide immediate financial aid to flood victims and those people who are residing in Pat areas.
The chief secretary directed deputy commissioners of the relevant areas to take measures for the immediate shifting of people from flood-affected areas.
