Federal Science and Technology Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has ‘sighted’ the Ramazan moon two months well before the actual start of the fasting month.
In a tweet on Thursday, the minister said the first of Ramazan will begin on April 25 as the moon will be sighted on April 24. He said the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee has been giving wrong dates for the start of religious months. “The dates they gave for the start of Rajab and Ziquaad were inaccurate,” he added.
He said his ministry will give a briefing to the parliament’s standing committees on religious affairs on March 5. “All Islamic festivals including Eid should be a source of unity and not divisions in the Ummah,” he maintained.
Reacting to the minister's tweet, Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rahman said "Let the time come then we will see which day the Ramazan will start."
He said "The Committee is doing its job and will continue to do that."
