Lt Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib was arrested by the Islamabad police in Monday's early hours on charges of inciting the public against national institutions.
Personnel from the Ramna police station took him into custody from his residence in the federal capital. A first information report (FIR) was filed last evening against the former army officer at the Ramna police station following his television interview.
Responding to a question about the PTI chairman’s ongoing court arrest drive, Amjad Shoaib said it would not work and suggested they need to change its strategy. “Let's suppose they say no one will go to public offices in Islamabad and if people act on your call, it will make the government think about it,” he said.
Later, a local court in the federal capital approved a three-day physical remand of Amjad Shoaib.
The former military officer was presented in the court of Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah today.
Prosecutor Adnan contended that the ex-general, through his statement on TV, tried to spread hate between the government, the opposition and the government employees.
