JUI-F refuses to sign opp alliance conference’s joint declaration

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) refused to sign the joint declaration issued at the conclusion of the conference organised under the auspices of the grand opposition’s alliance, Tehreek Tahafuz Ayin Pakistan (TTAP), on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Sources told 24News TV channel that giving reason for that, the party said it had participated in the event as an observer. 

The conference on the rule of law and the constitution kicked off at a hotel in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The development came after opposition leaders announced to go ahead with the event following an emergency huddle at Mahmood Khan Achakzai's residence.

The opposition alliance on Wednesday accused the government of pressuring the hotel’s administration to revoke permission for the second day of its two-day conference, but vowed to proceed with the event.

After talks between the government and the opposition collapsed in January, the PTI made another push to form a joint front against the federal government and convinced Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former PML-N leader, to become part of its anti-government movement.
Since then, the PTI has been making overtures to other opposition parties, in light of ex-PM Imran Khan’s directives — with the TTAP leaders also visiting Sindh to meet the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) with the two sides agreeing to work together for the supremacy of the Constitution and independence of the judiciary and parliament in the country.
