Shreya Ghoshal feels EMBARRASED by hit song Chikni Chameli
Accomplished Indian singer Shreya Ghoshal has expressed embarrassment about her borderline raunchy song ‘Chikni Chameli’ due to its objectifying lyrics about women, portraying them in a way that emphasizes their sexuality and physical attractiveness.
Shreya lately appeared in an interview session where she shared that she has been conscious about singing the songs because she feels it has a huge effect on human life. The singer added that she feels there are certain song writings about women highlighting their ‘sexuality’ that she thinks need to be changed.
"I have sung a handful of songs which could be borderline raunchy like Chikni Chameli. And I think, there is a very thin line between being sensual, and sexy, and being outright objectified, or objectifying women in general. The reason I have become more considerate about this over time is that I met with little girls singing these songs without understanding their actual meaning. They were just dancing to the lyrics and came to say to me, ‘Oh, we love your song! Can we sing it for you?’ and I really feel very embarrassed. A little girl, just five or six years old, singing those lines and I feel it does not suit, it does not sound good, " said the singer.

She said that she understands being sexy or talking about it is not wrong but in India, we need to put benchmark.
