At least 20 people including several children have died due to poisonous gas in a span of one week in Karachi’s Kemari area, revealed 24NewsHD TV channel in a report on Friday.

Police have arrested three people and started investigation into the incident. After media aired the news, local administration swung into action and formed a three-member team to probe the matter.

Local administration revealed that deaths had been caused by toxic chemicals used by some factories.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, taking notice of the incident, has sought a report into the matter.

The report said that in Kemari’s Leghari Goth area, this mysterious disease has devoured 20 lives so far within a week and 40 people are in critical state.

As the news broke on media, local administration took action and DC Kemari Mukhtar Abro during an operation sealed three factories in Leghari Goth. Three people were also arrested in this operation. A medical team has been constituted to treat the patients.

Local administration said these factories are using toxic chemical due to which the deaths occurred.

On the other hand, people living in the area, have raised concerns over the largescale deaths. Mostly labourers are residing in this locality.

CM Murad has taken notice of the deaths and ordered Karachi Commissioner, Health DG and Labour Department to submit a report in this regard.
