Murree receives eight inches of snow, says PDMA

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday said that it had been snowing in Murree since last night and so far, eight inches of snow had been recorded at the hill station, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia said that more rain and snow were expected in and around Murree and Galyat during the next 24 hours due to which roads could become slippery.

The DG further said that the officials of the administration and concerned departments were on the field to deal with any emergency.

He informed that presently all roads leading to Murree were open for traffic and there was no obstruction.

He asked motorists to use snow chains since the entry of vehicles in the hill station without snow chains was banned.

Kathia said that temperatures in Murree and its suburbs would drop further in days to come. “Therefore, tourists should avoid travelling unnecessarily,” he advised.

The DG said that the changing weather conditions were being monitored from the PDMA’s Control Room round the clock.

He asked people to contact on helpline number 1129 in case of an emergency.
