Noor murder case: US Embassy clarifies position on staff-accused meeting

The US Embassy Tuesday took to Twitter to clarify its position in response to a report about the meeting between the US embassy staff and the suspected murderer of Noor Muqaddam, the daughter of a former Pakistani ambassador.

In a tweet, the US Embassy said: “In a foreign country, US citizens are subject to that country’s laws.”

“When Americans are arrested abroad, the Embassy can check on their wellbeing and provide a list of lawyers, but cannot provide legal advice, participate in court proceedings or effect their release,” it added.

A report Monday quoted police officer as saying that the US Embassy staff met Zahir. The embassy requested the police for a meeting with the accused as he was a dual national of the US and Pakistan, it added.
