Bathing in accumulated rainwater in Punjab streets banned under Section 144

Section 144 has been imposed banning bathing in accumulated rainwater in streets, roads, open spaces or public places across Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday. 

According to notification issued by Punjab Home Department, all types of swimming in dams, rivers, canals, ponds and lakes have been completely banned. 

Unauthorized boating in dams, rivers, canals, ponds, lakes and distributaries has also been banned. 

All the above activities have been banned for 60 days under Section 144. 

The restrictions have been imposed to protect precious human lives in the context of the current weather conditions. 

During heavy rains in the monsoon, the accumulation of rainwater in low-lying areas and open spaces has increased significantly. 

During heavy rains, bathing in this water can pose serious risks to children and youth. 

The water level in dams, rivers, canals, ponds and lakes across Punjab is high these days. In such a situation, swimming and boating are extremely dangerous for human life. 

The Punjab Home Secretary has issued a regulation on the restrictions imposing Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898.

Administration and law enforcement agencies should ensure implementation of the order.

Directions to widely publicize the implementation of Section 144 for public awareness have been given.
