Bernie Sanders says US 'Equally Responsible' for Gaza crisis

US Senator Bernie Sanders has strongly criticized Washington's support for Israel, saying the United States shares responsibility for the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza because of its continued military assistance.

Speaking on the situation in Gaza, Sanders said the US has provided billions of dollars in military aid to Israel despite allegations that it has violated international law.

He argued that American support has made the US an equal participant in the unfolding crisis.

The senator also claimed that Israel continued military operations and expanded its ground offensive in Gaza even after a ceasefire, adding that Israeli forces now control nearly 70 percent of the territory.

Calling for an immediate policy shift, Sanders urged the US Congress to respect public opinion and suspend military assistance to Israel.

He said many Americans are demanding an end to military aid and believe the US should no longer support Israel's military campaign.

Highlighting the humanitarian impact of the conflict, Sanders said that nine months after the ceasefire, the suffering of Palestinians has not ended.

He stated that 92 percent of homes in Gaza have been destroyed or severely damaged, while 70 percent of the population lacks adequate housing.

He further said that 91 percent of children in Gaza have no regular access to education, and around 70 percent of minors are facing food insecurity, underscoring the severe humanitarian challenges confronting the territory.

Sanders also alleged that Israel has established several new military outposts in Gaza despite the ceasefire and claimed that the Israeli government is planning a long-term occupation of the enclave.
