Ireland shock world champions India with historic 34-run T20 victory

Ireland defeated world champions India by 34 runs in the opening match of their two-game T20 series at Stormont on Friday, registering their first-ever victory over India in any format.

Chasing a target of 183, India were bowled out for 148 with seven deliveries to spare after their batting line-up failed to build meaningful partnerships.

Opener Abhishek Sharma top-scored with 49, while Shivam Dube contributed 25.

No other Indian batter managed to make a significant impact as Ireland's bowlers kept the visitors under constant pressure.

Fast bowler Matt Hollard claimed 3-28, while left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys also picked up three wickets for 38 runs to lead Ireland's impressive bowling performance.

Earlier, Ireland posted a competitive 182-9 in their allotted 20 overs after captain Lorcan Tucker struck a fluent 50 and Gareth Delany added 49.
