May 27, 2022 03:39 PM

In order to meet tough International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions, the government may increase the electricity prices by Rs3.75 per unit in four months, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

Quoting its sources, the channel reported that if announced, the increase would put the additional burden of over Rs350 billion on the consumers.

Furthermore, they added, that the time period for which the PTI government had announced Rs5 per unit cut in the power tariff would expire in June, and that hike in the basic power tariff by 63 paisa per unit was already due.

Separately, sources disclosed, there were chances of raise in electricity price by Rs2.17 per unit.

If announced, it would put an additional burden of Rs207 billion on consumers.
