Taking notice of the arrest of PTI leader Azam Swati, the Senate Standing Committee on Interior has summoned Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The FIA Director General (DG) Mohsin Hassan Butt has been directed to appear before the committee on Monday to inform the members about the arrest of Senator Azam Swati.

According to the committee declaration, the committee headed by its Chairman Senator Mohsin Aziz severely condemned the arrest of Senator Azam Swati.

Pertinent to mention here, PTI Senator Azam Swati was arrested on Sunday morning by the FIA over a case related to a controversial tweet against the top official of Pak army. This is the second time in less than two months that Swati was arrested for posting comments against state institutions on social media.

A first information (FIR) report was registered by the FIA on the complaint of the state through Islamabad Cyber Crime Reporting Centre (CCRC) Technical Assistant Aneesur Rehman.

Following the arrest, a local court in Islamabad granted the FIA a two-day physical remand of Swati in the case.

The investigation agency sought eight days’ physical remand of Senator Swati from duty judge Waqas Ahmed Raja.

The FIA prosecutor and PTI’s Babar Awan and Faisal Chaudhry appeared before the court.

The Judge earlier reserved his decision over the FIA plea for the physical remand of Azam Swati. Later, the judicial magistrate granted two days’ physical remand of Swati to the FIA.
