The PPP managed to dent the ruling PTI by snatching an important political figure in Larkana at a time when the relations between the federal and provincial governments have soared over the opposition alliance, the islands issue and the abduction of the Sindh police chief.
In this connection, 24NewsHD TV channel reported that the development came as Shafqat Hussain Unar – son of former MPA Ghulam Hussain Unar and nephew of Altaf Hussain Unar – decided to bid farewell to the PTI and join the PPP.
The influential Unar family’s decision to rejoin the PPP will certainly boost the party and minimise the chances of PTI challenging it in Larkana.
Late Altaf Unar was the only person in Larkana who gave a tough time to the PPP candidates in his area of influence. He was the minister for revenue and relief during Pervez Musharraf's tenure and the PML-Q senior vice-president.
Later, he joined the PPP on June 21, 2012 and won the 2013 election from PS-35 on the party ticket. However, he was later disqualified, resulting in by-poll.
