Rape victim climbs water tank in Rahim Yar Khan, appeals to CM Maryam Nawaz for justice

A young woman from Rahim Yar Khan has made a desperate public plea to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, alleging that she was raped by an influential man and that local police are refusing to register a case against the suspect.

The protest took a dramatic turn when the victim climbed a high water tank, threatening to take her own life in frustration over the authorities’ inaction. Police and rescue teams eventually managed to persuade her to come down safely, after which she spoke to reporters about her ordeal.

Addressing the Chief Minister directly, the victim invoked Maryam Nawaz’s public commitment to women’s protection, saying,

“Maryam Nawaz says she is the ‘red line’ for women, but I have been raped. I have faced humiliation for four months seeking justice, yet I have not received it. Where will I find justice?”

The woman accused the District Police Officer (DPO) of deliberately blocking the registration of an FIR against the influential suspect, identified as Shahbaz, alleging that the officer was protecting the accused instead of helping her.

“If the DPO is the one conspiring with the accused, then where will the women of Pakistan get justice? I want to commit suicide,” she said in anguish.
Her mother also backed her daughter’s claims, saying that the police repeatedly refused to file a case despite multiple visits to the station.

She alleged that the perpetrator not only committed rape but also recorded obscene videos of her daughter.

The family has appealed directly to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intervene personally, ensure an impartial investigation, and take action against those responsible for obstructing justice.
